We are Focused on What Matters Most Right Now in Oakland County

At the Junior League of Birmingham, Michigan (JLB) we pledge to serve our community by meeting its everchanging needs. To us, that means adjusting our focus according to our community’s most at-risk populations. Our work is always evolving, and that keeps us quick thinking, always striving for progress, and preparing to take on whatever comes next.

Our current community focus is making an impact on the lives of Oakland County women in crisis. To make an impact in this focus area, we are supported by our strong community partnerships, clear plan of action, and an engaged, trained group of women member-volunteers. Since 1952, we have remained committed to supporting the needs of the community and have aided in the growth of new non-profits to meet these needs. Our projects have varied over the years from literacy and transitional housing to our current project of developing a job readiness program to aid survivors of human trafficking.

We are Creating Fulfilling Leadership Opportunities Throughout Oakland County

Our impact on the community is made possible by the training and development of our members into skilled leaders and volunteers. JLB members, who live in Oakland County and the surrounding Metro Detroit areas, develop civic leadership skills through focused training offered by JLB. Our projects give our members the opportunities to grow personally and professionally, while positively changing the communities where they live and work.

We are Transforming Oakland County Communities by Challenging the Status Quo

JLB’s work centers around improving our local communities through effective action. So far this year, we have provided meals and winter boots to the survivors of domestic violence, helped pack food boxes to those families suffering from food insecurity, and renovated a classroom space to launch our newly developed job readiness program for survivors of human trafficking, We believe that these impactful actions have the power to bring us closer to our goal of making a significant difference in the lives of women in Oakland County.
